Health and wellness using electric and magnetic fields date back to the late 1800’s. As far back as 1890, the American Electro-Therapeutic Association conducted annual conferences on the therapeutic use of electricity and electrical devices by physicians on patients. Some involved current flow through the patient, while others were electrically powered devices. At first, only direct current (DC) devices were utilized in the medical doctor’s office for relieving pain.
The Electrical World – May 20, 1891 – reported Tesla’s first of three lectures on currents of high frequency and potential at Columbia College in New York. These lectures introduced the world to a new form of energy with applications ranging from communication to health!
In 1898, Tesla published a paper that he read at the eighth annual meeting of the American Electro-Therapeutic Association in Buffalo, NY entitled, “High Frequency Oscillators for Electro-Therapeutic and Other Purposes.” He states:
“One of the early observed and remarkable features of the high frequency currents, and one which was chiefly of interest to the physician, was their apparent harmlessness which made it possible to pass relatively great amounts of electrical energy through the body of a person without causing pain or serious discomfort.”
On September 6, 1932, at a seminar presented by the American Congress of Physical Therapy, held in New York, Dr. Gustave Kolischer announced: “Tesla’s high-frequency electrical currents are bringing about highly beneficial results in dealing with cancer, surpassing anything that could be accomplished with ordinary surgery.”
Although Tesla did not actively pursue the applications of his oscillators for therapeutic use, many other scientists in his day picked up where he left off and began exploring the health and benefits of his curative waves. Even today, Tesla continues to inspire others in support of heath and wellness using technology first developed over 100 years ago.
