After experiencing the BioCharger at a convention, Diane Mulloy, an OsteoStrong franchisee, was excited to introduce the modality to her two Nashville-area centers, where it has since delivered measurable business benefits, including:
This case study explores Diane’s approach to integrating BioCharger and the reasons she describes it as OsteoStrong’s most effective complementary modality.
OsteoStrong is a membership-based integrative health and wellness center focused on musculoskeletal strengthening. Using osteogenic loading, OsteoStrong delivers quick, non-invasive sessions that support bone density, posture, balance, and overall performance. Members often experience improvements in strength, stability, and mobility, along with reduced joint and back pain.
Diane Mulloy has owned and operated two OsteoStrong centers in the Nashville area for more than a decade. While OsteoStrong began with a single core offering, her locations have since expanded to include complementary modalities such as hydro massage, compression boots, and the BioCharger. Diane introduced BioCharger in 2019, and demand from members has continued to grow.
Like many operators, Diane initially faced skepticism from her team when introducing BioCharger. She had her own doubts at first as well, but that quickly changed after experiencing it during an OsteoStrong convention. As she recalls, “I would use it in between sessions, and I never got tired. I came home feeling so good.”
Recognizing that firsthand experience was key, Diane encouraged her staff to use BioCharger before and after work. This simple shift helped build internal confidence and, over time, team members began recommending it naturally to members.
At first, Diane’s locations offered a wide range of BioCharger recipes, designed to support different wellness goals. As usage increased, however, she saw an opportunity to simplify the experience for both staff and members.
Working closely with the BioCharger team, she refined the offering to focus on the most relevant and impactful programs. “They helped us figure out which recipes to eliminate and which ones were the most relevant and supportive for our members,” she explains. The team also supported the development of customized protocols for specific use cases, which are now offered during select sessions outside of standard hours. “We love them. They’re fabulous—every one of them.”
Before adopting BioCharger, Diane had used PEMF mats, but the added cleaning and operational requirements became a challenge, especially during the pandemic. In contrast, BioCharger required minimal maintenance and no reset between sessions, making it significantly easier for staff to manage.
As a result, Diane replaced the PEMF mats and expanded BioCharger across both locations. “BioCharger has been a much better modality for us,” she notes. She also highlights its multi-modality capabilities, which eliminated the need to invest in additional technologies like red light therapy, as BioCharger provides similar supportive benefits in a single system.
BioCharger is integrated differently across Diane’s locations based on space and layout. At one center, she transformed a conference room into a dedicated BioCharger space designed to feel calming and immersive. “It’s really cool—we painted the walls, added BioCharger visuals, and included small touches like puzzles and books. It’s a very meditative space, and people love it,” she shares.
At her second location, BioCharger is placed in the front lobby, making it highly visible to members and visitors. This visibility naturally drives curiosity and engagement, with Diane noting that “people are always asking about it.”
From a business perspective, BioCharger has proven to be a strong investment. As Diane explains, “At this point, the BioChargers are completely paid for and fully depreciated off my books. It’s pure profit now. And they last a long time—so once you’ve paid it off, you’re just generating revenue from it.”
When adjusting membership pricing, Diane incorporated BioCharger as part of an enhanced value offering, allowing members to access additional modalities as part of their experience. This approach was well received and helped reinforce the overall value of membership.
The centers also offer punch cards for BioCharger sessions, available to both members and non-members. This has created an additional revenue stream while also introducing new individuals to the centers. “We have quite a few people who just come in for the BioCharger,” Diane says. “The punch cards have been a great way to generate revenue.”
Diane’s locations have also hosted small group events that combine BioCharger sessions with educational wellness content. These events frequently reach capacity and serve as an effective entry point for new users.
As Diane explains, “People learned about BioCharger through those events and then started using it regularly and even upgraded their memberships.”
Over time, BioCharger has become an integral part of the member experience. Diane has observed a clear connection between access to BioCharger and member retention, with many members continuing their memberships specifically because of it.
“I know for a fact that some members are still with us because of the BioCharger,” she says. “I honestly can’t imagine an OsteoStrong center not having one. To me, it is part of the brand.”
Diane’s experience highlights the broader impact BioCharger can have within a wellness business. As she puts it, “If you can only afford one thing, make it the BioCharger. It is the most effective modality we have.”
